Awhile back I posted that I dad developed a staph infection 3 m0, after having my pacer replaced, not including the leads
for awhile it looked like the antibiotic treatment was going to work then it began getting much worse. The leads were removed on the 20th and fortunately there were no complications during surgery. Keep fingers crossed that it stays that way. And infection does not come back. Surgery took about 2 hrs.

Leads

no new leads and no pacer now they said I don't need one put in a ICM instead. seem to be doing well but just a few days post surgery now. The infection was pretty bad I guess but doc feels he has it cleaned up. Time will tell. Not really any pain just sore. They put in 6 or 7 ports in case of emergency during surgery, interesting!

Buz - My first implant did not take, due to infection. I did have my device for a short period before they removed it. For a few months after they removed it everything was fine and they thought I might just be okay without it, but after a few months symptoms returned and they were worse than before. MyEP said that this often happens if you remove the device.
In my case it took 2 months to clear the infection, another 21 weeks to clear the reaction to the vancomycin. Then another 3 weeks to clear an additional med hurdle. Then about another 2 months before the surgery.
How long has your device been removed?

I would think there is no way that is enough time for them to reach that conclusion. I would seek a second opinion.
Hope it all works out.

I wasn't clear, he feels he has successfully cleaned up the infection but gave me the usual warning signs to watch for plus " call me at once if any sign of reoccurrence"

Hope everything goes well now.. Obviously, new leads were part of the operation. Did the doctors say if the old leads were harboring all the infection or will you continue on antibiotics for awhile??
Good Luck,
