My left shoulder is not frozen...it is just all knots! And it is painful! I have been moving it around alot and trying to rub out the knots on my own. I am used to getting massages once a month. I am two weeks post-procedure. Are massages okay at this point as long as they leave the pacemaker alone? I know I can use heat on my back and shoulder.
Thanks!

My guess

You may want to check with your cardiologist's nurse, but I don't see a propblem with massage as long as the masseuse doesn't go below the collar bone or abve the breast in the front.
It's possible you won't find it comfortable to lie on your stomach, however. Seated in a massage chair might be better. Even 5 years out, I keep a piece of egg-crate foam to cushion my upper chest when in the prone position, and I doubt if I could have lain on my stomach after only two weeks.
I'm sure your monthly massage is a comfort to you, and a great way of managing stress. I say it would be a shame to deprive yourself when with a little care, you can continue to enjoy it.

My wife and I just had a couples massage and it went wonderful. the therapist was accomodating when I told her about the pacemaker and did not rub that area. She did do the back on that side with no ill effects other than total relaxation. Remember there are alot of other areas they can work on for the relief.

Knots

Hi Diana,
I would make sure the knots are not any blood clots. I am 11 days post procedure. My pacemaker was placed under the muscle. I experienced a great deal of pain and discomfort in my arm and shoulder. After ultrasound, it was determined that a blood clot was present. I would speak to your doctor prior to massage.
Hooe you feel better soon,
Kathy
