Hi everyone, I had my pacemaker fitted last week and I'm excited to have it but unclear about some things. This may seem a very silly question, it's about weighing scales. My hospital gave me a copy of Boston Scuentific, Pacemaker Therapy. It contains do's and don'ts. It says not to use body fat measuring scales. As I'm a Slimming World attendee I'm concerned about their scales. Also, at home I have Salter BMI Computer scales which I use regularly to weigh myself. Anyone any idea if they're safe?
Thanks Irene

Weighing scales? look at the APP ERPM on Google Play stores
by RDL79 - 2017-02-09 04:22:11
Dear Irene, I want you to know that on Googleplay store there is an Android App called ERPM.
The acronym stands for “Environmental risks for Pacemaker and ICD” and it is an application for pacemaker and ICD recipients. This application has a list of objects that you can encounter, in the home - or outside - environment, or some diagnostic and therapeutic procedures usually present in healthcare environments. All of these are potentially able to generate an electromagnetic field that can affect the proper function of your pacemaker or ICD. For each area (at home or outside) you will find environments (like kitchen or bank) in which you will see numerous items listed; similarly in the healthcare area. Not all listed items are potentially risky and this will be indicated by a color code. A tutor will always be available to remind you of the meaning of the color codes. The App also has an item search system and moreover, it will give you the opportunity to tell an object not found in order to find it in future updates.

Bye bye..
You know you're wired when...
Your pacemaker receives radio frequencies.

Weighing scales

Hi Irene I was told you can't use the scales that measure body fat composition. These are the ones that actually transmit an electronic impulses through the base of your feet up through your body. They often calculate your hydration levels etc as well. I would suggest gaining further information from the product manufacturer for your homescales and discuss your concerns at the next slimmers meeting too.
