Hello- I am Sandra and I am scheduled for pacemaker surgery next Wednesday as an out patient. I will go to the center in the morning and be dismissed that afternoon. On one hand I will be glad to be in my own bed that evening but on the other hand a little concerned. I think I would be more comfortable being monitored 24 hours after having a surgery that involves my heart. Is this becoming more common? I am so glad I found this site - have learned so many good tips this week.

Shortly after your surgery, a technician from the pacemaker clinic will check your pacemaker to make certain the settings are correct and that it's working well. You'll also have a chest X-ray to check lead placement.
Once they've checked everything is fine, you're better off at home.
my only tip, is to take painkillers before the freezing wears off totally, for your own comfort. Then take it easy.
Best Wishes,
Bionic Beat
Thanks

Wishing you all the best for your surgery, you will be fine! I too was a little surprised to be a day patient as originally told overnight stay, but was very glad to get home instead! Just like to agree with other comments, you will be checked before they let you go and I'm sure you will find you are more comfortable at home. ❤
PM Surgery

I stayed one night at the hospital after my PM surgery. It was pretty annoying as I felt completely fine and it seemed every half hour someone had to peak, poke, push or pull on me. I was glad to get out of there as soon as possible.
On the other hand, it was all a big rush with no time to wrap my head around it all. I was dazed and confused when I got home which was not pleasant but it passed pretty quickly. Would it have been more troubling to have not spent the night? I don't know but nobody asked my opinion anyway.
Good luck!

There are enormous benefits to being released from hospital a.s.a.p :-
- the longer you stay in hospital the more chance you have of acquiring an infection
- you will probably just be given a local anaesthetic with a little bit of sedative so your recovery will be rapid
- you can eat at home ( much better food I hope )
- you will sleep better in your own bed
There is absolutely no need for 24 hr monitoring . I had a PM fittted at 11.00am and left hospital at 5.00pm.
Best of luck
Ian
