Feeling overwhelmed

Hello! I recently had a defibrillator after having 3 cardiac arrest events on the same day(10/14/16). The first one took place in my office. I was told that I was without oxygen for 24 minutes. I had another in the emergency room and then in ICU. They put me in a medical coma and a cooling bed for 3 days. After I was woken up, they decided to put in the defibrillator I am extremly lucky to have walked away. I am grateful, however I am still not feeling great. I have returned to work, but I am having a very hard time focusing and feeling depressed. Anyone else have similar issues?

Overwhelmed

I must say that I have not been through anything like you have. I was suddenly admitted to the ER and had a PM the next day. That was overwhelming enough for me. So I have some idea what you are going through. The sudden change to our well-being and fear of the unknown is what makes us feel overwhelmed.

Thing is, you are being asked to do something that is totally against human nature. That is; to be patient and allow time to return to good health. We want that quickly! It is difficult. However, you have to try to have a positive attitude and know that you are not alone. It will certainly get better! It may take a while, but it is well worth the wait. Try to make the best of your down-time and relax knowing that it will get better. Many of us here have had to go through months of uncertainty and not feeling well, but we all made it through. You will too!

You should obviously ask your doctor to address any serious concerns you may have, but post here with any questions or concerns that so many people with experience can offer answers to.

I wish you the very best and a speedy recovery!

Sincerely,

David

You will be fine!

Don't worry my friend! You will do fine. These things happens, it happened to me in a similar case, and I think that some considerable part of those who have an ICD have passed through similar situations. In the beggining it might be difficult, it was for me, but as some time passes, some months maybe, you will be fine, and all your fears will go away. It was like that for me. Just wait some couple of months, a year maybe, and you will see that all your concerns will be gone. I know that we want this feeling to go away imediatelly. And eventually it can, depends on each one. For me, it took some months. But it will certainly pass! I guarantee you that! You are brave like everyone with an ICD, and you can always count on us. We are all alive and we are all here to help each other!

Wish you the best.

 Edward
