Post op underarm pain and numbness in arm and hand

Hi everyone.

I had my pacemaker moved to my right side 9 days ago and have been experiencing the odd sharp jabbing pain under my arm pit I am also experiencing numbness in my arm and tingling in my hands like something is trapped and pain associated with this. Can anybody shed light on this as I am worried it might be a clot in a vein or something bad. My surgeon was pretty new and has made a right mess of the stitching but I guess I have to live with that. I am 51

Thank you

What we have here seems to be very much of a ''comeback '' (in the automotive field, a mechanic misdiagnosing or mal-repairing , then having to do it correctly  - the second time --on his time)  .This  applies to surgeons and doctors  ..  or it should  !  and the patient continues to suffer  . .malpractice. I suspect nerve damage , I think ..

Tis time for a new surgeon ..

Numbness

Hi Sunnystives - I hope it has been sunny for you in St Ives today, it certainly hasn't been here in Kent!!

I rang the hospital 2 weeks post op because of numbness and prickly pain in my arm and they asked me to go in to have a look - apparently they were looking to check the veins in my arms weren't bulging as sometimes they get blocked or something. Anyway they weren't and they reassured me it was just because they are so brutal during the op. That was a week ago and it is still numb. If you are worried I would phone the hospital and ask their advice - they really won't mind and it is better yo be safe than sorry!

Good luck!

Thank you

Thank you so much both of you for your helpful comments. It is a source of comfort to me to be able to post on here. How is your pain Diane C? I hope it has subsided for you. My pain has reduced so I am hoping it will stay that way and not flare up again. I had to have my pacemaker moved so that I can have radiotherapy as I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I hope you are getting good treatment in Kent? Regards Karen

Best wishes

Hi Karen,

I'm really pleased your pain has reduced, my has too and I think I am finally getting used to things. I really hope your radiotherapy goes well and that you are fighting fit again soon.

Take care,

Diane
