Pacing feeling!

Hi All,

I had my pacemaker put in on friday. I was told 4-6 weeks before I'll be 'fit and healthy'.

All I can feel at the moment is a pacing feeling going up and doen the wires im guessing, its making me feel sick constantly, is this normal? And if so how long does it normally last before you get used to it?

Any help would be greatful, im only 21 so this past week has been very stressful as it was the last thing I was expecting to happen to me.

Thank you!

Stress

I think that what you are feeling now may be related to stress. It is very unlikely that you could feel pacing, but it is not impossible. It is much more likely that you are letting your nerves get the best of you. I can tell you that these PM's are extremely reliable and it is likely that what you are experiencing (no matter what it may be) is nothing to worry about. As always, it is wise to contact the Doctor's office and ask questions if you have any concerns. Go to the ER if you feel it necessary. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Getting a PM is big event in your life and as with every big event it is stressful and there will be an adjustment period. I have had my PM for 30 years now, but when I first received it the first few weeks were mentally trying. Trust me, a time wil come (very soon) when you'll forget you even have a PM. Really, it is no big deal and you will go on to live a completely normal life.

This forum is great for newbies like yourself. There are lots of folks here with lots of experience.

I wish you the very best!

Sincerely,

David

Feeling the pacing

by FaithGrace - 2016-10-16 21:41:17

Hello :)

I got my 1st pacemaker 2 months ago now.  For the first week or so after surgery, I was very aware of my heartbeat and felt it beating constantly. I tried to remain calm and just go with it as I didn't know really if it was normal or not.  I thought it was just part of my body getting used to being paced and also healing.

I also could "see" my chest move each time my heart beat.  That was strange!  I could take my pulse without touching my neck or wrist, just count the movement.

For me, these symptoms did go away as the first couple weeks went by.

The difference is, that I didn't feel sick along with feeling the pacing/heartbeat.  Maybe someone else can relate to that part and will comment and give you some advice.  The only thing I can think of is make sure you take pain meds with food as they cause an upset stomach if taken without food.

Give yourself time to heal, the first week was the roughest for me for sure.  Week two was a little better and week three was much better for me.  Hopefully you will see a little improvement each day!

Your PM may need adjusting

Hi BeckieJayne   If this feeling doesn't go away very soon  give your Pacenaker clinic a ring . I am in the UK too and assume that you have been given a contact number at your hospital in Blackburn .  Your pacemaker may just need a tiny adjustment to  the voltage  ( this is no big deal,  it is all done externally ! ).

You shouldn't be getting these pacing feelings and there may be an easy fix .

Best of luck

Ian

Setting Adjustments

I agree with Ian, your settings most likely just need an adjustment.  Very common within the first few months of receiving a PM....sometimes more than once.

Try not to stress (easier said than done).

Thanks!

thank you for all your help.

the specialist said he would adjust the setting once I start betablockers on my 4  week check up. I have rang up today and they have given me another 2 weeks worth of anti sickneas tablets so hopefully those will help me!

thanks again :D

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
