My mom is due for a pacemaker replacement. She is 73. She is recently widowed and I live many states away. What should we expect for recovery? Do I need to be there with her 24/7 or can I have her friends check on her? She's very healthy otherwise - she lifts weights 3 x week and walks everyday, she can walk for 4 miles at a time!

My pacemaker has ultimately saved mine and my unborn childs life for which I am thankful.

Replacements are super easy. Most of the soreness from the first implant was from creating the pocket, this time it's scar tissue. Most of the restrictions from the first implant are the new leads, leads generally outlast several generators.
I'm on my 5th. I got my most recent one in Feb. I was at the hospital at 7am, was starving and in line at the McDonalds drive through for a late breakfast by 11:30, got home and answered some work email then took a nap. My sister came by and made dinner that night. I was perfectly capable of doing it myself but why speak up when I could keep quiet and be served a nice dinner? lol
Someone should probably be with her the first day because she will have had anesthesia, not because she'll be feeling bad or not able to care for herself. Other than that, she should bounce back quickly and need minimal care/supervision.
