2 days post op

Hi!  I am new to the board and of course new to a pacemaker.  I had my two wire PM inserted 2 days ago.  It was inserted due to bradycardia and arrythmias.  The bradycardia is being resolved by the PM, but the arrhythmia remain until the doc puts me I am on Meds.  I can hardly hold my eyes open and stay awake.  Anyone experiencing the same problem?

Check with your EP/Cardio's office as to the min setting as well as your recovery settings.

Most folks need some adjusting to get these to where they need them.

Meds or no meds, it's normal to be tired two days out. You've still got anesthesia in your system, your body has had a shock and will need some time to bounce back, pain meds can wipe you out, and that's not even mentioning the arrhythmia meds. Give it some time. Until then, listen to your body.

That said, I was on metoprolol for a while and could not tolerate it. It was like being drunk and taking a sleeping pill. The doc kept saying it would get better in 4-6 weeks but it never did so I switched to atenolol. It was much better but still took a few months to get used to it and not be so tired. My husband is on metoprolol and doesn't feel anything. Everyone is different, but it's normal to take a few weeks to adjust. Add in surgery, and I'd give it at least that, possibly longer.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
