Showering after surgery

How long did your doctor's tell you not to shower or take a bath after your surgery? Mine told me no showers or baths for 10 days, I could stay clean but don't get in any water and keep the wound completely dry. I've had my fiance washing my hair for me and of course ive stayed clean, but I really would love a REAL shower! Only 2 days to go! So I'm curious what everyone else's times were on them taking a shower!

Showering after Surgery

by FaithGrace - 2016-09-28 08:18:27

I was told I could shower the same day as my surgery, with my back towards the water.  My EP said just don't let the water hit directly on the wound area.

I did shower the day after surgery, but held a dry washcloth over the site and used my other hand to wash my hair which worked great.

Quite a difference in discharge instructions, same day shower vs. 10 days!!

I was told just not to get the surgical site wet for a week. Hope your doing well!

Waterproof bandage

I had a waterproof bandage covering the site and was told I could take a shower the next day. Not to worry, because it would protect the wound. After a few days I felt that the bandage was really wet after a shower and I couldn't get it to dry. After about a week I was told I could remove the bandage. When I did it was like niagara falls. There was a lot of water held inside the bandage. Apparently the water leaked in the top and had no way to drain out. I really worried about an infection, but there were no problems. So much for waterproof bandages.

Shaking my head

My doctor still hasn't told me I could shower...and I had my implant in May. Getting ripe

For heavens sake guys, take a plastic bag and tape it over the implant site...problem solved. I probably should add, for the challenged...do not put the plastic bag over your head...

Actually

Putting the plastic bag over your head is actually quite effective! Put it over your head and make sure that no air can get inside. You won't have to worry about your incision getting wet. infection, or anything else!

That's ugly! Haha please nobody put a bag over your head and then blame it on my showering question! I did take a shower tonight! But I'll be glad when this tape comes off my incision! It's really irritating.

Shower

Wonderful product called Opsite, by Smith and Nephew. It totally waterproofs the wound.   Nurse took off the dressing, then sprayed it on morning after evening surgery.  I waited about 5 minutes then showered.  EP said he has always had his patients use it with no problems.  After about 2 weeks it just wears off.  You can buy it over the counter at the chemists.  I can never understand why other EPs don't use it.  So nice to have a shower every day.

A suggestion.

Robin

I covered my whole body in cling-film , had a shower and then chased my wife around the house.

I thought it would excite her but she told me not to be so silly.

Try it with your fiancee and report back , you may have better results than I did  !

Cheers

Showereing

I was discharged the day of my procedure wih a waterproof dressing over my wound. Im on my seventh day with the same dressing still in place and have showered every second day. I was told to keep my wound dry and to restrict the movement of my arm. I will remove the waterproof dressing on the tenth day and lave it open from there on. I have had two full knee replacements over the last ten years and the dressing procedure was the same. No problems with infections .

Showering

I was told I could shower after 72 hours.  However, I had to keep my back to the spray so there was no direct contact with the incision.  That shower was almost orgasmic!
