stitch poking out after healing

Hi

So thank you v much to replies before. Got it checked & told all ok. It's been tender the same area since beginning bug it did eventually heal well. Now though, after being fixed for at least 10+ days one end has a tiny hole, a bit of stitch sticking out and is a wee bit red but tender. Contacted unit but weekend so unlikely to hear till mon. Any tips?  Last thing I need is any infection!

Thank you very much :)

Weekend

It may be fine to wait until Monday, but if if it were me I'd call the office and insist they see you today! If they won't then I'd go to the ER at the same hospital where it was implanted. It'll be a pain in the butt, but it may be worth a little piece of mind. I had a left-over stitch one time many years ago and it was no big deal for them to yank it out. There was no infection and no further issues. However, I certainly agree with you about the fear/danger of an infection. Though just, because it is a little red and tender certainly doesn't mean there is anything to worry about. In-fact, it is highly unlikely there is any concerning issue. After 10 days it probably should still be a little red and tender, so don't worry. I just always feel like it is better to be safe than sorry!

Wishing you the best!

David

I would recommend you go directly to the ER. Sounds exactly like the infection I had

stitch vs hole with tenderness

Just a stitch poking out is no big deal, snip it as close as possible and put a bandaid on with some bacitracin.

If it's not just the stitch, but a hole, esp with tenderness, there is a chance it's infection and should be treated agressively. Don't let them brush you off or hand you an antibiotic to see if it helps, insist on cultures.

I also had a stitch show a few weeks following implant. The problem with forums is we can't see the wound to make a judgement call and even less of us are qualified to do so anyway. Given that wound infections relating to ICD/Pacemaker can have some pretty servere outcomes if not caught early. My advice would be go and get it checked out by someone who has experience specifically with pacemaker implants and not some random nurse who happens to be at hand. Don't be fobbed off, it's worth a few phone calls and a few hours waiting to get it checked out properly. Especially if you think it red and tender.

I picked up a post op infection and spent almost 2 weeks in hospital and almost a month on various antibiotics. Better safe than sorry.

Please go straight as I had the same and don't know if this caused my infection or not but be safe
