A-Fib with pacemaker

My son is 18 and has had a PM since he was 15 months old since July the top part of his heart has went into A-Fib but they said the bottom part of his heart looks great. Just wondering if anyone has has this happen?  I heard they could put him on meds. , could be fixed through his pacemaker, but I'm worried he's my boy my whole world. We meet with the Electro. Dr. on Sep. 2 !

A-FIB

So sorry he now must contend with afib. I developed paroxysmal afib about 6 months ago so I truly sympathize. Many people have it and don't even know it, especially while it is paroxymal (starts and stops on its own). It knocks the stuffing out of me. Is his paroxysmal, lasting less than an hour or two? If longer lasting I'm sure his doc will put him on anticoagulants to prevent stroke. I was on Eliquis which works great with no side effects or diet restrictions, just expensive. Doesn't stop the afib but alleviates the fear of stroke.

I have a dual lead pacemaker and in a few months will be having an ablation procedure to stop the afib. My EP is confident the procedure will be successful and safer because I have the pacemaker! So try to cheer up and cheer up your son. They can do fantastic things these days that were impossible 15 or 20 years ago!

Best wishes!

Thank you for your comments....My son is already on blood thinners because he has an artificial heart valve also and the crazy part is he feels fine, he's been in A-fib since July 18th he has a few flare up that would last a few minutes but this one hasn't gone away. Ryan has a boston scienticfic pacer with difibulator .Guess I'm one of those mom no matter how old your child is you worry but thank you for making me feel better

afib after PM

I also went into afib after getting a pacemaker. When I went into afib for 45 days I had a cardioversion that took me out of afib. That was months ago and I don't think I have gone into afib since. I had a reaction to meds so only take eliquis. I have changed my diet and exercise intensity. I think the exercise was putting me into afib.

Also my sons are much older thay yours and I still worry about them .

Afib

I also had Afib.  What a pain. I hated it.  Was on thinners and couldn't eat salads.  I had an ablation 3 yrs ago and haven't had it since.  I do agree with angry sparrow I did find that certain foods usually spicey and salty foods made me ho into Afib.  Keeping a food diary is a great idea.  Everyone's triggers are different.

More foods

I had to think it was over 3yrs ago.   Chocolate and caffeine was a culprit.

Also A-fib

Hi. I've had a pacemaker since I was 14 mths (1983).  I'm up to my 5th pacemaker, the first once lasting from 1983 - 2000. In around 2008 I went into A-fib. I have had several cardioversion's but all failed. I cannot notice the A-fib or perhaps I've lived with it for so long I don't know the difference. I hope all works out with your son.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
