Hi all!!
I just had the icd/pm put in yesterday early morning. I can't believe how fast I got out of hospital. Well right now I am. little sore but feel very positive about this. Doctor said about 4 weeks before I can consider moving arm above shoulder. I am 52 years old and have had chf for 5 years now. I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know how I am.

ICD

Welcome Rich,
I'm about 6 months into having an ICD myself and I'm about as close to being 100% as it gets. As a former 5 mile a day jogger I now do about half that and include a walk after it. No one would even know I have one, as a matter of fact very few people are even awhere I received one. Most people would'nt understand it so I didnt bother.
Anytime you mention a cardiac issue people just assume it was a heart attack and before you know it everyone's spread the wrong info. Many in my family don't even know.
Here's a tip that totally helped me. After getting home and having to sleep with my arm in a sling, it hurt like hell being stuck in this postion all night not to mention uncomforable wearing it. My answer to this problem was easy. Buy a small Ace Bandage and wrap it several times around your wrist and then simply run the two ends around your upper leg before tying it together. Just give yourself enough slack so that your arm can't reach above your head but still gives you freedom to move it at night. Seem's a little nutty going through this every night but it made a HUGE difference for me.
Welcome

Welcome to this wonderful site and of course to the bionic (that's what my grandchildren call me) world. I had my pm put in in March and...what a miracle device! Had to have several adjustments before all was perfect, but it's no big deal. Wore my sling for just a few days. Then just be aware to not reach or stretch. The 4 weeks will go by so fast. Don't ever hesitate to write, be it a question or just to vent, or even to say hi. Good Luck! 😀
Welcome

Ha...Ha....Love "Electronically Enhanced"...and welcome to the PM world. It'll take a few weeks, but soon you'll forget it's even there. It's been 6 months for me and sometimes days go by when I don't even think about it.
Welcome!

I received my pacemaker last December. I was surprised at how sore I was immediately after it was put in but I feel fantastic now. I forget I have it a lot of the time. It's made a big difference in how I feel. I'm very grateful the technology exists.

Welcome to the World of the Electronically Enhanced! Got my ICD a little over two years ago. For the first few weeks you will have the urge to reach up and grab that brick in your chest every time you bend over, but, don't worry, it won't fall out!
