My primary doctor placed me on a 24hr holter monitor and they called with results saying I was in sick sinus syndrome and told me they already set me up to see the pacer surgeon 1st thing in the morning. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm scared. I've only had my pacer since July 2015 and have had a lot of trouble with it.

sick sinus syndrome

I had my pacer put in due to 3rd degree complete AV block. I was passing out a lot. My pacer is malfunctioning and is causing the SSS. I don't feel any better that I did before my initial surgery. I just don't pass out anymore but have had numerous to close for comfort.
Thank you.
SSS

The pacemaker does not cause SSS.
In a healthy heart the sinus node is the main pacemaker. It triggers the atrials to activate and then the signal paces through the AV node and triggers the ventricls, which are the main pumping chambers.
With a 2 chamber PM there are many possible modes.
The most basic mode for an AV block the PM will monitor the atrail and after a delay trigger the ventrical. But it does not pace the atrial.
With SSS the sinus mode does not reliably fire. Thus the mode of the PM needs to be changed to monitor the atrial and pulse if it is too low. And then pulse the ventricle if needed.

Hi Patches,
That was my story exactly. I have not felt that much better with the PM at all. But I'm still here, and it was getting pretty dicey before I got it so I guess it's a trade off. I am still hopeful I'll feel better.

I do not really understand what you mean to say but I thought by having a pacer, you would have already solved the problem of sick sinus syndrome. That what happened to me. I was diagnosed to be suffering from SSS and had to fit a pacemaker in order to correct the situation. I did just that and now I am feeling fine and living normal again. Perhaps the technician of your heart pacemaker need to make some fine adjustments since you had already inserted a pacemaker. Whatever it is you should keep up the appointment with your doctor for the necessary procedure. Good luck to you but there is nothing to fear really.
