Flutter Ablation AFTER Pacemaker Implant

Has anyone had flutter ablation done after receiving a pacemaker? If so, how did the ablation procedure go?

No problems.
Had mine under general anaesthesia- access to the heart via catheter right groin. In hospital as a day case.
Has a high success rate and low complication rate.
Never had flutter again.

Thanks for the reply

Was the pacemaker active during the ablation? Just curious....

Several ablations

I did, already back in 2001, and also had some other ablations when the pacemaker was already in. No problems at all. They usually do not switch the pacemaker off, but lower the rate a little, so that it doesn't interfere with the intrinsic rhythm and they get a clear picture of everything.

Flutter ablations have success rates higher than 95%. My flutter never occured again.

In Germany they don't do general anaesthesias for ablations, they do deep sedation with Propofol (not available in the U.S. for these procedures I was told by an American EP). Makes no difference, you just sleep through the procedure, but sedation has less risks than a GA.

Good luck!

Yes, pacemaker active during ablation.
