started living with pacemaker at 38

Hi,

Last saturday I was undergone surgery with implantation of dual chamber MR compatible pacemaker. While pacemaker is quite normal for age over 60s & 70s, quite unusual at my age 38. As I see success stories of many on 30s & 40s with pacemaker my confidence level boosted up. Thanks to pacemaker club help to connect similar people around.

Age 38

I Turned age 38 in December and had a PM implanted about three weeks later. That was 30 years ago. I can tell you that my life has been completely normal in every way. I have not done one thing differently than if I did not have a PM. I am a grateful recipient.

Sincerely,
David

34 and wild ride

Hello and welcome to the group. I was 34 when I had my ICD implanted. Scared the daylights out of me. I also was scared since i lost my mom at 47 to a massive HA. I am 40 and in Feb had my first thump. Needless to say I have been on a roller coaster bc my new cardiologist has messed with my meds and I am still having some fluttering but all my stress test and ekg comes back great. I have found I am my worst enemy with worrying about it all. I have a 16 and 13 year old and I try my best to get up everyday and not let a flutter or anything else bother me. I am currently on 160 mg of sotalol a day. You are in a great place on here and will read many stories. we just have to encourage each other that we are where we are in life for a reason. Good luck

I was 29 when my PM went in.

Hi Jaya,
I think it's becoming more common place for younger people to have a PM. I was a bit weirded out at first, I too thought I was too young, but as long as it does its thing and I can get on with it then I couldn't really care less. I hope all goes well for you.

Love, love, love "Penelope" my pacemaker. I can run again and do other outdoor activities. It was a bit of a rough start but I'm on my way. Did my 1st 1/2 marathon in April. My second booked for August the on to a full marathon next year. We can still do almost everything we wanted to do before this happened. I hope you the good experience I did. First month are two is trial and error to be your perfect settings. Take care!

There is no age discrimination when it comes to pacemakers. If you need it, you're going to get one. We have kids in high school and middle school who have pacemakers. I was healthy as a horse when I got mine. Like I said, there is no discrimination when it comes to pacemakers. Hopefully it will help me enjoy a healthy life from now on. Hope to equal or surpass my dad. He recently passed away at 88 years old.
