I had my dual lead pacemaker put in yesterday. I have a pain patch for inflammatory RA, and that is changed every 3 days. After the procedure, and the sedation wore off, I experienced, and am still experiencing, severe pain if my arm hangs down, or gets into a strange position. I have ice on the incision, and it is leaking a bit of blood constantly. Not much. My concern is that last night, the recisdent would not treat me for pain, not even with ibuprofen until I fought hard and explained my pain level. My bp was high, and I was in tears I was in so much pain. I finally got some Toradol IV, which is IV Ibuprofen. ( I am a nurse). I slept fitfully, and never did get on top of the pain, and it was at times a 9/10. Has anyone else had this experience, ../? It felt as though it was nerve pain, very burning and sharp. Thanks. I am sitting here icing, and using ibuprofen and tylenol both, instead of one percocet every 6 hours, which i was ordered, If someone had pain like this post op, can you tell me how long it lasted, and some tricks to help? They said that most people experienced very little pain, and tylenol was all they needed so i am most shocked. In pain and near tears, Kathleen

Thank you for the feedback, Pink bunny. Tylenol does nothing. This is a nerve kind of pain. I was told not to wear a sling, but to move the arm around but not above my shoulder. I hit certain spots that are mega uncomfortable where tears come to my eyes. I wonder if they damaged a major nerve. Ugh. Oh dear. : (

I had my pacemaker put in 2 weeks ago. They even had to go back in the next day and adjust a wire that was touching my diaphragm . The only pain meds I was offered in the hospital was Tylenol. It did not help but I was never in the kind of pain you are experiencing . I have been using ibruprofen at home and managing pain pretty well. I do get stabbing pain occasionally and if my arm is in a Certain position it goes numb. (Happened when I brushed my teeth this morning). I was given a sling in the hospital to keep me from lifting my arm up and this helps keep it stable and more comfortable. Maybe one could help you.
