I was wondering if it is ok for my pace maker to be moving around while I bend over and/or turn over, while in bed. Also, while the pacer is moving about, can that cause the leads to disconnect? I am new at this, since February 2016 and quite worried and concerned! So if someone can get back to me, a.s.a.p., I would greatly appreciate it, since my post doctor appointment is not for another six weeks, I believe!!!!!

leads
by Tracey_E - 2016-02-23 12:02:01
They are put in with slack. The leads are longer than they need to be and they will coil it and tuck the extra behind the device. Shifting a bit is ok. It should settle in as the scar tissue grows around it, or some people end up like David and there is always a bit of movement. When in doubt, call and ask if they want to see you sooner than your 6 week check.
9 and counting

I've had 9 pacers implanted over past 30 years with lots of recovery experience.
It sounds like you are new to pacing and haven't healed completely? Leads will not disconnect with movement like you are describing. And the pacer can move around with no worries. I have run into things and hit the pacer many times and, yes, it hurts but it keeps on pacing. How much movement is too much? If it starts to get painful, back off!
I do long distance cycling 2-4 times a week, have played tennis, golf, sailed, hiked, climbed mountains. My son was a baby and my daughter was born 4 days after my first implant in1986. They are working, 31 and 29 years old, we're off to Hawaii together (!) end of April. Live your life as if this never happened...
Take care,

OBTW, take time to thank all those around you who got you through this. It'll make you feel better
Pacemaker moving

Oh yes I just got mine last week and it moves too far left and forward when I bend over and it also moves to the right. It is very painful when mine moves and I wonder how in the heck is this suppose to heal if it keeps scraping across? I hope it stops this soon! Did any of yours move so much when it was new? I hate to wear the sling more because my shoulder will freeze up but I really hate this pm moving while it's so tender. Seems like the pocket he made is too big!

PM moving around
by Good Dog - 2016-02-23 11:02:17
I have had my PM for thirty years and it moves around. For some reason I always lay on my side (the side with my PM), raise my arm above my head, and put my pillow under my head when I go to sleep. I can feel my PM moving. My leads have never come loose.
So I can give you assurance that the leads should not come loose from the PM moving around. These are rugged little units. Not to worry...........
Wish you the best!
Sincerely,
David
