Blood on the incision...

Hello, ive had 3 surgeries before and all were good from what i remember... but 3 weeks ago i had a pacemaker change and the recovery process is different from what i remember... not sure is it because of the surgeon? or the operation process... it seems to be more painful and slower to recover... i am only 23, female...

also ive noticed this time that there is a lot of dried up blood compared to previous. I dont remember having so much blood stuck to me last time I had a pacemaker change when i was 15.

does anyone have the same problem? because the dried blood is actually stuck onto my skin and i cant really peel it off... and it doesnt wash off either.

Ive tried peeling the dried blood off that isnt as close to the incision site and its like peeling off dried hard skin and some parts are actually ripping off my skin too.

is this normal? what can i do?

glue?

They've changed how they close up incisions over the years. I got a new one two weeks ago and they used glue covered by tape, a first for me. They said the tape would come off in 3-4 weeks, then told me how to get the glue off after the tape comes off. It's pretty messy under the tape. Have they looked at it? The nurse or doctor could confirm it's glue. If it is, wait it out rather than pulling at it. If it's the same stuff I have, they said it'll stay on up to 4 weeks.

i'm not sure?

thankyou tracey :)

im not quite sure.. i didnt hear them putting on glue... i just knew they put the strips on and then a plaster... so not sure... but if you say that its changed within the years then possibly...
and nope no ones had a look...
but i suppose everyday it looks a lot cleaner...
so its nothing to worry about right? and i should just let it be?

no worries

It's probably just residual goop and nothing to worry about! If it gets more red, if there's heat or streaking, new swelling, if you get a fever, then those are signs of infection and you should have someone look at it. Otherwise, you can probably wait it out. They looked at mine on day 7. I thought it looked awful, bloody and lumpy and the skin under the tape is still bright orange from the stuff they swab on your skin, but both surgeons pronounced it perfect. Their definition of "perfect" is a little different from mine, lol, but I'll have faith that it will look better in a few more weeks.

thankyouu :)
