ICD and sport

HI, I'm Rhea and I'm 13. A few weeks ago I was playing hockey and I was in defence on a long corner (with masks so the ball doesn't hit you in the face). So the ball avoided my face and went right into my icd. I live in the UK and I have a ski trip coming up, my parents want to get a protection thing, but there aren't any that ship to the UK or are a descent price.

Need advice!!

Look at this thread for suggestions about adapting different sports protector to protect the ICD.

And this company makes a number of products

And they have international dealers.

Email them and find a dealer in the UK.

Also check local sporting goods dealers for things that can be adapted.

Improvised PM device protection

I understand your and their concern although these things are supposed to be able to take hits like that according to my doctors. You could fabricate a home made impact deflector as you will be challenged to find one no doubt. If I choose to make one, at my first glance around the room I see my blue recycle rectangular garbage pail with flat sides being made of a decent thickness gauge of plastic and semi rigid. I may cut down this to a custom shape to fit inside my ski coat/vest and adhere it with duct tape or Velcro type fastening or something. The plastic is pretty damn cheap and leaves room for shaping it for a semi comfortable fit. It is not bullet proof, but should have some effectiveness in deflection of direct impacts over a wider area. Not strong enuf you say? Double it up, glue, tape, blind type rivet them together, put foam in between if you want to go nuts. I'm full of ideas right? There ya go! :) Round off the corners, edges and there ya go! Watch those snow boarders!( maybe you!) lol. They have a blind side that all us skiers need to be aware of. Hope to see you on the slopes!
