Anyone have the wires crossed during an implant and need to be cut open again to fix?
I'm all sown up the first time, the Medtronics techs go to test and say OOPS THE WIRES ARE CROSSED. Since I'm awake, I ask my doctor, you mean to tell me you need to cut me open again and fix this, he says yes. He does the fix, then disappears and I don't see him again. No one shows in my hospital room after surgery and the next morning no cardiologist. His P.A. showed after I made a stink and requested someone and she had no idea what happened. Medtronics did come the following morning to do a check, but would not discuss what happened during surgery. I'm upset to say the least!!!!!!!!!!!!

In all likelihood , we have a lawsuit here ..and the medical profession must improve their attitude ! Making an error is one thing . running the leads strikes me as a nearly impossible task.... we are human ...but, then breaking communications ..leaving the patient hanging .. inexcusable !
And, a big YES on the detailed statement from the hospital .. A shame, but they cannot be trusted ..
shocking!

It seems as though they ignored all sorts of protocol for the procedure. When my leads were attached to the PM they verbally read the serial numbers and one at a time, verified the location each should be implanted in. Then they tested both leads for proper function and interrogated the PM before closing the incision. I just find this shocking.
This is a first

This is kinda unbelievable. I had a lead move and had to return to surgery the next day to have it re-positioned. That is understandable as these kind of things can happen.
In your situation I thought intuitively; "well, they are human". After considering it further, I am now thinking that this was a mistake that just shouldn't happen. They must have routine checks for things like this before they sew you up while in surgery?
I am not surprised that the Medtronic Rep would not discuss it. They won't take responsibility for anything except the device itself. The doctor is responsible for the implant.
I don't blame you for being upset!
I do hope all goes well for you from here on out.......
Sincerely,
Dave
tell me where not to go

Odd as it sounds, my friend's mother's heart is actually backwards in heart chest. The docs didn't know it, and when they went to put in the PM wires, they made quite a mess.
Sounds like you have a lot of questions that need answers and it might take a lawyer to get them.
Hope it all gets better from here.
You know you're wired when...
You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.

My pacemaker was installed in 1998 and I have not felt better. The mental part is the toughest.
I would ask for a detailed statement.

From the hospital.
If you or your insurance company received any charges for the "correction" I would protest those charges and contact an attorney. I am not one to say "sue everybody for everything" but for you or your insurance company to be required to pay for correcting this mistake would be wrong.
How did they get through the testing phase of your implant without realizing something was wrong????
