Remote Interrogation Yesterday

Hello,
I had my Saint Jude ICD (CD3365-40Q) implanted 6 months ago. I am feel ok. A remote interrogation of the device was performed today. As I am new to this:
Should I request a copy of the report?
Is the report readable ( I am an engineer not a doctor)?
As far as the next few years, what is cycle of monitoring and reporting I can expect? Any advice on what I should ask my doctors?

Just trying to understand what to expect and what questions I should be asking.

Hope all is well.

Interrogation

Your device model name is Quadra Assura which has many great features that I won't bore you with. This is the same device I have by request.

So should you ask for a copy of the report..My personal opinion is no. Doesn't matter your background, unless you worked for one of the ICD manufacturers you would need to spend a lot of time educating yourself to even understand the settings then, there is the nuance of how a setting affects other functions. You're better off just discussing things with the manufacturer's rep when you get an interrogation. Now that being said you can go to their web site and download the manuals on the Quadra Assura. It's several hundred pages long (maybe 8" thick) and even difficult for an engineer to follow.

Another point I should touch on is a subject that causes much confusion. You are struggling but the interrogation shows the device is working perfectly. Your device only does and monitors what it is programmed to. For example if they set it to monitor episodes of Vtach above 150bpm then nothing lower will be recorded. Doesn't mean they aren't happening, just they aren't recorded. What I'm trying to say is don't assume that when they say your device is working properly that nothing is going on. It has to be set properly for you as an individual so make sure to build a relationship with the Manufacturer's rep. It helps

Cycle of monitoring is dependent on several factors;
First, your medical condition is the primary indicator of how frequently you should be checked. They typically vary between Annual, Bi-annual, and quarterly. Finally, if you have a home monitor they will monitor remotely with less frequent office visits.

Here's what to ask your doctors...Make a list of anything that happens you don't understand between interrogations as well as how you feel physically. Take the list with you to each visit and ask. Additionally ask for clarification about anything that crops up during interrogations. But the biggie...ask how your device is set-up and what that means. For example is it programmed for ATP therapy during Ventricular Tachycardia episodes. Or will it go direct to a Jesus Jolt.

Oh yeah, a Jesus Jolt is the term that spews forth from my mouth when I get full "therapy". I shout Jesus and then it's done.

Good luck and any further questions feel free to let us know

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
