I just started on weights a while back. I am going up to 10lbs in bisceps. Using 6 to 8 on other exercises. My problem area is my bat wings ! lol I do not go to the gym only home.

Do push ups. Put your hands on the edge of a chair or use the stairs and do dips. Go all crazy and install a pull up bar :) If you tone your whole arms, the triceps will tighten right up. I get much better results now doing lots of body weight movements than when I did isolated movements with small weights. (just my not-a-trainer opinion) You don't need a bunch of stuff.

how heavy?

I used to have a set of Heavy Hands. They are 1# handles with a set of changeable weights to put on the ends. I'm not sure how heavy they go, the biggest I had was 5#, so each was 11#. I like the therapy bands, too, easier to adjust the tension and get more resistance.
