bradycardia pm

Pacemaker for bradycardia installed sept 11. Feel good but am having spikes in heart rate up to 115 randomly. PM set at 60. Unsure if this is normal or troubling. Anyone else experience these spikes?

You may have a "rate responsive" pace maker which increases your heart rate with activity. If that is the case it may need it's sensitivity setting adjusted. your provider can easily do this.

It is difficult to give meaningful feedback with out more information. A common scenario is that a PM is implanted to treat bradycardia because the low heart rate makes it difficult to prescribe medications to treat afib and other rhythm problems. Those medications typically lower blood pressure and heart rates. So a PM is needed to keep the HR from falling too low. The pacemaker does not fix rhythm problems. The fact that your HR is going to 115 could be the result of a fib. Actually 115 doesn't sound that high. You don't say whether you are physically active at the time or just sitting around. Sometimes the residual surgical pain and post op stress can raise anxiety levels and HR. The bottom line is that more background information needs to be given before it is possible to responsibly address your question.

60 just means it won't let you go under 60. Your rate can go up on its own, or the pacer can help your rate go up when it senses movement. When in doubt, call. If you tell them what time it happened, they can see if you were pacing at the time.
