I do not know the name of the pose but its when you are on your knees and arch your back to reach your ankles with your hands, stretching your chest open....
For the rest of the day I thought I had moved the pacemaker...apparently it did move a bit under the muscle and that was quite uncomfortable...it ached too.
Bummer that I found out only AFTER I had done it.
Did not have another date with Mr Yee for some time...
thanks everyone !

I enjoy everyone posts ! Just want to be careful so I do not get injuried. I already have a hip injury so I must limit myself to certain poses until that heals !
When can you start?

I'm 5 weeks post op and was wondering when is it OK to start doing some yoga, stretching or even lifting light weights? I know many yoga poses require lifting arms above the shoulder--haven't gone there yet. I'm only a yoga beginner (was before the PM too) and would like to try getting back into some exercise. Any suggestions out there to when is when? Also thoughts on walking dogs that pull?
Thanks!!!

If you feel ok, go ahead and start. Just ease into it and respect the restrictions. I was told don't lift over 20#, tho in reality it pulled to lift considerably less than that. I did start light weights before 6 weeks. Go by how you feel, you can tell easily when it doesn't feel right. Ice after the first few times as you may get a little sore.
I would not walk a dog that pulls just yet unless it's a little dog and you can hold the leash completely with the other hand. I have one very strong shepherd who heels beautifully until he sees small furry beasts, then he tries to pounce and save the world. He did not get walked while I was healing. His sister, the sweet golden who wouldn't dream of leaving my side, she got walked normally.

I'm a yoga teacher and I'm with TraceyE and judyblue. Of it hurts, don't do it!
cb, the pose you are referring to is Camel. Its a deep backward bend and the backward bends in yoga are pretty challenging for most folks. We spend a lot of time in life bending forward but backward....not so much.
So, I would say that with or without a PM, you have to go easy on those backbends!
Cheers, Carol
go do your yoga!

I love my yoga and have not had any pain (pacemaker area anyway) doing the poses. I would though recommend using blocks and/or blankets for the tougher moves until you can do the poses without them.
I also perform Pilates and lift 8 pound hand weights and have never had any problems. If you feel any pain, just back off and remember to start out slowly and build your way up to harder moves and heavier weights.

It is just over 10 years since a dual lead device was implanted for complete heart block. It has worked perfectly and I have traveled well near two million miles internationally since then.
try it

I was told I could do anything as long as it didn't hurt.
