Protein Powder

I am looking for a protein powder with low cholesterol because my cholesterol is sky high. My HDL and LDL are both off the charts, per the doctor. I like favor in my smoothies beside the fruit. Any suggestions ??

Herbalife

I started the Herbalife diet a while back, I seemed to be loosing weight and felt good other than dealing with my heart issues (they made me feel crap) however I also have afib and for some reason it made my heart race more when I was on the shakes so I had to stop. The shakes are really good though. you can go to the site for more info. it really helps with appetite control and weight loss.

I use SunWarrior. It's vegan, no sugar, no artificial sweeteners, plant based protein, no soy, no gmo, no caffeine or appetite suppressants. Be careful, a lot of them have some really junky ingredients with a pretty label that spouts how healthy it is.

Wondering how you plan to lower cholesterol with smoothies? Cut back on red meat and fried foods, exercise more is what I've always heard.

I do protein smoothies post workout. I use the powder, coconut water as a base and usually some fruit. I also love PB2, which if you've never discovered it is a peanut butter that is powdered so they took out most of the calories and fat, just leave the peanut butter taste. My favorite smoothie is a spoon of PB2 and half a banana with chocolate protein.

Sometimes I use coffee as the liquid, then it tastes like a frappucino but I call it breakfast.

If you google it, there are some interesting green smoothie recipes out there.

( I like this one but it's not the one I was looking for, will post it when I find it) Here's a cool chart with smoothie ideas

p.s. HDL is the good cholesterol. I'm pretty sure it's ok for it to be high because it clears out the bad cholesterol. The ratio is the important thing.

Cutting out sugars and starches can bring down triglycerides. Just assuming they're high too, they usually go hand in hand.

Fiber and education

All protein powder drinks have little to no cholesterol. I use vanilla OptiCleanse by Xymogen, available through health practitioners.

But if you want to lower cholesterol, increase your fiber intake.

Fiber actually prevents the body from absorbing some cholesterol, and also it helps the body eliminate it, as you lose weight. There are two kinds of fiber, soluble and insoluble. You want the soluble kind. My shake has fiber, but I also add a tablespoon of Citrucell.

TraceyE is right. There's a lot to understand about cholesterol, the good, the bad, and the essential. Look up the websites she recommends. You also might want to browse a bookstore for books on heart-healthy eating.

Don't try to do everything at once. Learn about all the food elements and change one thing at a time. Small changes can make big differences.

Thank you !

I do not have a big weight problem. I would like to lose 10 pounds to be my best weight for me. I exercise 3-4 times per week. But, of course would love to do more, but tired after work. I do not eat red meat or eggs (hate it since childhood). Only chicken breasts, turkey and shrimp occasionally. Even when my weight was perfect, I had high cholesterol. My problem is night time eating, what the heck to eat for dinner. I eat the same breakfast and lunch everyday. Bran cereal mixed with shredded wheat and yogurt, banana or smoothie, I do like snack with pretzels though. Also, like my cake, but cutting down. But, thank you everyone for your help !!! Wonderful people !!!

Sometimes your weight can be great and what you eat can be textbook perfect and you still have high cholesterol. My dad is that way, his dr has him on a statin for it and it's better but still high. My grandpa is the same way, great weight but high cholesterol. He eats his two eggs and bacon every morning for breakfast, thumbs his nose at the statin, is 93 years old and works outside all day long rebuilding cars, can run circles around people 20 years younger. I think they're going to decide eventually that if you are active and fit, if your other numbers are in line, then cholesterol on the high end isn't a big deal, esp if the ratio of HDL to LDL is good.
