Random sharp pain

Hello!

I had a dual-lead pacemaker implanted this past August. I went to my check ups and everything is looking good! I had the pacemaker implanted for Heart block! I am only 25 years old a do not know a lot about pacemakers and was quite a shock to get one!

I have recently been experiencing a random, shooting/sharp pain that will last for a couple minutes at a time for maybe once or twice a day. I am not sure if this is normal or if there could be a reason why this happens. Also, would be nice to know if anyone else has experienced this! :)

I can understand the trauma of getting a PM at a young age. I was in my 30's. I've had it now for 30 years. Actually on my 4th generator as of two weeks ago. I had complete heart block and I've lived the past 30 years just as normal as anyone without a PM. It has had absolutely no negative impact on my life. Quite the contrary, I have had a great life without any physical restrictions. So your prognosis is great!

As far as the sharp pain goes; the likelihood that it is something serious is so small it is almost not worth considering. However, if it continues and/or gets any worse, you should see your doc or go to the ER. I can tell ya that with having a PM, sharp pains caused by gas, sore muscles or a pinched nerve, you will usually fear the worst. 99.999% of the time, it is nothing. Although as I said; if it continues and/or gets any worse, you should see your doc or go to the ER.

Nerve regeneration...If it feels like ant bites or sharp needle sticks. Not everyone feels it but some of us do. It really hurts right? It can come and go for about 9 months to a year but then it should subside.

Pericarditis?

I also relate to the trauma of needing a pacemaker at a younger than usual age; I'm 37 and had my pacemaker implanted in April for 3rd Degree AV block. The onset of my AV block was sudden and dramatic; I went from never having had any known heart problems at all to needing a pacemaker within 12 hours. Gooddog, your comments are very comforting for me to read too, so thank you very much for what you wrote.

LCW306, I recently have been having sharp pains in my chest along with trouble breathing and tightness in the chest. I was told in the ER yesterday that I likely have pericarditis, which often manifests with sharp chest pains. If you have any of the other symptoms of pericarditis, (see the Mayo Clinic website) it might be something to ask your doctor about. The ER doc said it can happen with younger people who have had a relatively recent pacemaker implant. I definitely understand how distressing and worrisome it is when anything goes awry in the chest area now. Hopefully all is well with you and it is just gas or something, but I would get it checked out just in case.

I just got diagnosed with a 2nd degree heart block today and I have had PAC's for 10 years with no medication or treatment. I see a cardio on Friday to see what the want to do about it.

Being 24 this has been a shock and I have known about my arrhythmia for 10 years! Hearts no joke. Talk about anxiety
