Hand weights

Really getting into my hand weights for the season. I only use 3,4,5 and 6. But after how many sets do you change up the weight of the weight ??? I am doing 3 sets in different types of exercises.

Also, another question. I found dvd trainer on youtube that has free downloads of her exercises. She uses weights in different ways, like boxing w/weights (punching in front of you). Weights pressing overhead slightly in front. At what point does one know it should not be the exercise or angle for your pacer ????

If anyone interested it is jessicasmithtv.com - I am not associated with the business or friend.

I love combining also! Two for one. If you aren't sweating and working hard, which imo can be hard to do with small hand weights, you aren't burning fat.

Have you done burpees? They work the whole body and burn the most calories for effort/time. Add 10 before and after your regular workout for a little boost.

Drs vary greatly on what’s ok but I think they’d all agree you aren’t going to do any damage with 6 pounds. I was told not to lift more than 20 when I was healing, so that would have been ok even in the first weeks. Unless you are lifting very heavy and your pm is so close to the collarbone that you might pinch the wires or your wires are very tight (rare! it’s common to leave plenty of slack coiled behind the device), you will not hurt the pm or the wires. If it pulls or doesn’t feel good, ease up.

Some say no heavy weight higher than shoulder level, avoid pull ups and things like that. Some say don’t worry about it. My dr is on the don’t worry about it side of the fence. After a long time doing the elliptical and hand weights/weight machines every morning, I got bored two years ago and wanted to try boot camp (Crossfit). I expected him to give me some restrictions or even say no outright but he smiled and said have at it. I was doing clean/jerks (barbell ground to shoulder to overhead) with 65# yesterday. I’ve never had a problem with my pm.

You should go heavier when you can do a set and not feel the burn. If you aren’t breaking a sweat, getting short of breath, feeling the muscles work, you aren’t going to see any results. I like my gym because they tell us what to do, it’s mindless for me and they change it up every day so I don’t get bored. I’m lazy/ADD like that, see what’s on the board each morning and do it works great for me :o) Some days we go heavy but only do a few lifts at a time. Other days we go light but do a lot of reps. The first builds strength, the second builds stamina.

Try to concentrate on how you’re able to be active again and feel normal, rather than on having a machine stuck in your body.
