I am a new recipient of a PM and in my second week of recovery. Coping with it is a little difficult at times, and after reading some of the posts out here I feel a little better and a little more patient with my recovery time. I play electric guitar and I'm around amplifiers and speakers often. I was wondering if there were any musicians out here that are around the same equipment and if you have had any problems. Thanks!

What size speakers?

Question is what size speakers? Are they the ones on the stage floor type or are they the outdoor stadium speakers?

What we've found on the forum is you need a magnet the size of what they use to read your PM - or bigger before it will bother the PM. It also has to be close enough to bother the PM. That means you shouldn't go inside the EMF field.

Having said that, I moved some speakers this summer that were four foot high floor models. The woofers had magnets that were about three inches in diameter. Even though I lifted the speakers and was carrying them in my arms, I didn't get close enough to the magnets to bother my PM.

So even though the magnets may be big enough to bother the PM, you still have to have them close enough to the PM. Apparently I didn't have the three inch magnets close enough to my PM.

There has been some question about stadium sized speakers. Will they bother a PM? How close do you have to be to them? How far away?

In one of the publications for my PM, Medtronics, it indicates you should keep the PM a minimum of six inches away from an EMF field. I've found this to be a conservative estimate, but if you are concerned, it's a good precaution to use. Personally, I don't feel you'll run into problems with the speakers.

Hope you can continue to enjoy your guitar playing.

Thanks, Theknotguy. In my music room, my amps have 12 inch and after my post the other day, I went downstairs and turned on my "tube" amp which is sitting on top of another extension cab with a 12 inch. My PM is on my left side and I was sitting too close to the amp, I truly beleive because in about 10 mins I started feeling strange, with some dizziness etc. and turned it off. Granted I am still in recovery as my PM was just put in last week. I think I will just need to rearrange things and not sit as close to the amp anymore. I wonder if one of those EMF shirts would help block interference?? I may do an experiment on that.

Thanks!
