power tools

has anyone ever had any problems using corded or cordless power tools, such as hand held power saws, or table saws.

doc told me what to avoid.... but he didn't warn about A-fib and odds of still getting zapped.

Power tools

Hopefully PJinSC will chime in after me. He works in a power plant around 4000 volts with no problems. So he's a good resource.

I volunteer at a woodshop. I can operate any tool in the woodshop including the 220 volt table saw. No problems.

Have been over to the power panel checking on circuit breakers. Power panel is 220 volt. No problems.

Was drilling Kreg jig pocket screw holes with a large DeWalt drill. Forgot about my PM, was leaning on the drill while it was running. My PM was actually resting on the drill as it was running. No problems.

Son's garage door opener wasn't working. Thought he had turned off the power to a 110 volt line. Turned off power to wrong line so I grabbed a live 110 volt line. Got a pretty good jolt. No problem. Sore fingers though.

Daughter-in-laws battery died in her car. Forgot about having PM. Was leaning over two running car engines. No problem.

PJinSC's brother was doing welding with a 60 amp welder. No problems. So that means MIG/TIG welding shouldn't give you a problem if you're careful.

I had a security guy walk up behind me. Ran a wand over my PM checking for illegal stuff. No problems. (But I also didn't say what I was thinking either. )

Had to go through one of the non-approved security devices at, of all places, a State Fair. No problems. And that was after showing the State Highway Patrolman my PM card. "No exceptions!", he said. Told him I'd be really ticked if anything bad happened. No problems. Shucks! And I wanted to make a scene.

A lot of the things you read are just that - warnings. There to prevent a lawsuit in case of the one-in-a-million situation. So you don't have to worry about airport security, store security, cell phones, car remotes, induction cooking, short wave radios, microwave ovens and the like.

My PM is a Medtronic. Their website says I should keep electrical power stuff at least six inches away from my PM. So that means I'd have to be hugging a lot of equipment while it was running to cause a problem. I'm not really excited about hugging a circular saw while it's running.

I did have a problem with at Sawz-all saw. Forgot about having a PM. Had to clip the corner off a stack of boards. Plugged it in, checked the cut angle, and started to cut. Like I said, forgot about the PM.

Got a ways into the cut. Bore down with my shoulder on my PM side. Vibration from the saw went up my arm and started shaking my PM. My PM has an accelerometer. The vibration kicked off the accelerometer and kicked up my heart rate because the stupid PM thought I was running or something. What a rush!

One of the guys in the shop came over and asked me if I was OK. "You had the strangest look on your face.", he said.

If you have questions about afib, ask on another post. That's a whole different subject.

Hope everything goes well for you. Watch the Sawz-all saws. They're wicked.
