Pain over device ste after CRT D

I had CRT D two weeka ago. I still have quite an amount of pain over device site which is restricting my left shoulder movement. How long this pain will last?. I am not able to turn to the left side and sleep? Can anybody can tell me as to how long this pain will last based on personal experience?

Chanchan, you have the sympathy of many of us here. When I read your post it reminded me how uncomfortable I was in those first few weeks!

I've had my PM since March and while I'm able to sleep on my left side comfortably now, it took some time to get to that point. Are you able to sleep on your back and right side? If so, use those positions for a while until your site is less achy.

Let your doctor know about this; he/she may offer some additional advice (e.g., maybe you should take a bit of pain medication before bedtime to help you get over the hump). Try using an extra pillow to cradle your left side.

And while I know it can hurt to move, you need to keep that shoulder from freezing up. Avoid pressure, sudden motions and lifting your left arm above your head, but do keep using your arm.

Let us know how you do.

It gets better

I got a PM about 10 weeks ago and, despite a lot of initial discomfort, am finally not bothered much by it. I still support my left shoulder when I sleep on my right side and the site pinches from time to time.

When it had been in only about 2 to 3 weeks I felt quite restricted and couldn't cross my left arm much beyond my midline in front of my chest. My right shoulder had a tormenting itch and I gritted my teeth and forced my left arm to stretch so that I could scratch around my right shoulder/deltoid area.

I had a painful tearing sensation, almost as if I could feel something rip inside around the PM. I was afraid I had done something terrible. It burned for a minute or so, but freed up that left arm and that was the end of that restricted movement. I was still being careful about lifting my left arm above my head. When I saw the cardiologist shortly after for routine check, she said maybe some adhesions had formed, maybe I had been too easy on my left arm immediately after PM implant. In any event, it's good now.
