Time For Battery Change
by SMITTY - 2011-04-18 05:04:32
Hello,
Whoever is doing your checkup is getting a printout telling them the estimated remaining battery life in months. Find out what they are seeing.
I had a Medtronic that had to be replaced last year. When there was approximately 3 months life left in the battery it went into what is called End Of Life mode, (I think that is what it is called) and then pacemaker shifted into a power saving operation. I could feel this change in mode of operation very well and knew it was time to call my Dr. As I said when I felt the change in operation I still had a minimum of three months battery life left, so they told me.
What kind of pacemaker do you have? Different makes have different signals that show it is it is time for a battery change. Tell us that and I'm pretty sure some one here can give you some information on what to look for.
Good luck,
Smitty

Battery change-out may be a good time to check on the latest way to get the most out of your heart, according to the latest science. Good news:

No, this is not a commercial of any kind, just about how the pacemaker can work with your heart.
All the best,

Hi, I just had mine replaced in Sept . My original one was in 05. Mine is 100% pacing. Mine actually started beeping, I was told this would happen. It was a VERY quiet beep about every hour. They say once that starts you have about 30 day. They didn't make me wait that long.
So It depends on your usage.. So my first icd lasted 4 years 9 months.
Good Luck :)

my last pacemaker/defibrillator lasted from 2004 to 2010. it just depends on how much of the battery you have to use. If your getting shocked a lot - it will take up more battery. Otherwise you should be good for quite a while!
