It's Done

So I had the PM implanted yesterday and was kept overnight for observation which is hospital policy for 1st time implants.

During the surgery I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I kept telling the PM the I wanted her to do it and not a student she had with her. She kept reassuring me she was doing it while explaining it to him. She laughed about it later when she came by post-op. They placed a pressure bandage overnight to control swelling, it was quite uncomfortable but it did it's job when they removed it this morning.

My device is a St Jude dual chamber pm which the nurse prepping me said could easily pay off his BMW, lol.

I'm getting ready to go home now once they discharge me.

Congratulations, Macabr! Sounds like you had an excellent outcome. I also have a St. Jude Medical dual-lead PM...and, you're right, it costs almost as much as a year of private college. Thank God for insurance.

My advice to you: follow your discharge instructions to the letter...report any symptoms that don't seem right to you (and don't worry that you may be overreacting; medicos are accustomed to this and they'd rather have you phoning in a false alarm than sit back and ignore something potentially important). Nap when the spirit moves you...accept the help of friends and family while you are recuperating. Don't be surprised if emotions suddenly overtake you (that's totally normal and will pass).

Keep us posted!

Thanks for the advice knb. I'm lucky to have a great support system at home. My parents even flew in to help out however they can. My wife has taken on the role of home health aide, lol. I rest and when forget and try to do something more strenuous than they'd like, even my 5 y/o twin daughters scold me...lol.
