Ten days ago had PM fitted, second week felt really good, but on Friday had to call paramedics and ambulance and ended back in hospital, I had similar as before racing heart and pulse of 158 and felt like tight strap round chest, after blood tests and further blood tests ruled out heart attack, said it could be ischemia rate related, put me on 2.5 beta blocker and gave antibiotics as thought I might have an infection, yesterday had similar but no heart pain, just asking if anyone had similar symptoms, Roy

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
Yeah, same for me

I forget how many weeks into having a PM it was for me. I'm thinking 4-6 or maybe 8 weeks. My body and heart were still adjusting to the PM. My heart didn't like being under new management and was bouncing around all over the place. I was trying to do rehab while trying to get the heart settled down. Anyway...
About 2AM my heart kicked off with a bad session of afib with RVR. While lying in bed my heart rate went from 60 up to 140. Since I was still pretty beat up from CPR I was in a rest home type facility. Couldn't get anyone to answer my call button. Managed to survive until 6:30 AM. Called the wife. She arrived and got the EMT's and I ended up back in the hospital.
They put me on Cardizem as well as Metoprolol. I also have a routine to go through in case I go into afib with RVR. It may not stop a run to the hospital but it will buy me time until I can get to the hospital.
Sounds like you had afib with RVR? Whatever it was, I'd be asking questions to find out. Then be asking questions as to what to do if it happens again. It's pretty scarey when it happens.
Unfortunately the PM can't do anything while you're in afib with RVR. So mine just sat there throughout the whole ordeal and watched. Like I said, I now have a specific set of meds to take in a specific order if it happens again. Also my PM has a software program that is supposed to help too. But that doesn't mean it won't happen again. So far it hasn't. I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed.
So, yeah, it can happen, even with the PM. Like I said, I'd be asking what if it happens again and have a plan for what to do.
Hope you don't have to go through it again. Hope everything goes well for you.
