Blood pressure readings

Previous to having PM fitted last Monday we used to do a couple of Blood Pressure readings per day, I have just been out for a walk for twenty minutes and came back and thought I would try a Blood Pressure reading, it was 148/87 so following the PM op has that had an effect on increasing Blood Pressure or lowering it for you guys, thanks

My BP was abnormally high immediately before the PM implant (doc said my body was trying to compensate for the low heart rate--full heart block diagnosis led to the PM) and for a week or so following the implant, my BP dropped to normal (for me): 130/80 or thereabouts.

A couple of weeks later and the BP spiked again: 193/106. Luckily I was at a doctor's office when it was detected and they moved me right to the hospital, admitted me and ran a battery of tests. Discovered that, in addition to the heart block, I did in fact have hypertension and I was prescribed nifedipine. Now, two months into this regimen (and with the medication), my BP is again in the 130s/80s range.

If you still have the owners manual from your blood pressure cuff, take a look at it. I believe it will tell you to take your reading at the same time each day and avoid exercising immediately beforehand (tends to affect the reading). And remember that our BP is constantly changing (that's why doctors often tell you to take three readings and average them for a more accurate score).

Good luck and keep us posted!
