Pacemaker aok

just had a pacemaker implanted 3 weeks ago for atrial fibrillation and bradycardia... Initial discomfort at surgical site is worth it since i am no longer dizzy or short of breath.. The only problem is since i have favored my other arm because of lifting restrictions for 5 weeks i feel all my shoulder issues coming back and since i can no longer have an MRI this could be quite problematic. I did, however remember my surgeon saying that within a year or two the MRI restrictions could be a thing of the past because the MRI machines may be made with pacemaker compatibility...wouldn't that be nice! My scar is a little higher than most because of how my vein ran and i do notice that it's quite bumpy but the stitches have not totally dissolved yet so I'm hoping for the best! All in all i feel SO good and don't miss the shortness of breath i experienced for 4 years... Attitude has Lots to do with how you feel for sure!

If your arm continues to be a problem, you may want to consider physical therapy.

It's good for the newbies and future newbies to hear good reports. 3 weeks is early....your scar will most likely calm down in time. Glad you are feeling better.

It sounds like you are doing very well. I had a PM implanted 8 months ago for the same reasons as you and am 73 yrs. old. Members here will tell you to make gentle movements with your arm to prevent your shoulder from locking up. Others recommend physical therapy to help insure good healing especially if you have any shoulder issues. I am quite active in spite of my age and participate in a seniors exercise class. I have had to gradually increase my weight lifting and could not do certain movements for awhile because of the close proximity of the PM leads to my shoulder joint. A bumpy scar could be what is called a keloid scar and I have developed one of those which is somewhat aggravating for women because of the increased sensitivity of the scar which seems to fall under your bra strap. The RN in my cardiologist's office has said that they have injections that may help to resolve that or plastic surgery is an option but might not be covered by my insurance. I am taking a conservative, wait and see approach hoping that the scar will gradually recede and heal. It is typical to have some sensations like ant bites or burning as you increase activity and the nerves begin to heal or scar tissue is stretched. Your attitude is very helpful in working through the minor challenges you might face like adjustments in medications and the optimization of your PM settings. Welcome to the PM club and best wishes for continued good progress.

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.
