Other people on here have reported similar problems with the Garmin 305. For that reason I, too, bought a Polar monitor and have had no problems !

I had the same problem with Garmin, while all Polar heart rate monitors I've had so far have worked great with three different pacemaker manufacturers. Garmin was giving me totally inaccurate heart rate readings. Pacer was set at 60 minimum, Garmin often showed 30 or 40, and never more than 110, although I knew that I was up at 160 when running.

pacemaker and HR monitors

Since implant in 2009 of Adapta DR, I have never been able to rely on a heart rate monitor while exercising. They often cut out and stop reading once I start being paced. I've tried PowerTap, Garmin, and some others. I did try on an Apple Watch the other day and it read my HR fine while I was not being paced but I will have to test one during exercise before I buy. Would be interested to see if your problem resolves, I was hoping new technology would solve this.

The Garmin 225, announced 5/12/2015, has a built-in optical HR sensor and will not be subject to interference from your pacemaker- no chest strap.

fitbit shows twice the actual HR

I just had a Medtronic A2DR01 implanted June 1st. 2015.
While walking this morning using a fitbit HR it must have picked up the pluse from the PM over my skin after I started to perspire. Showed pulse rate at double the rate. Not sure if the fitbit had any impact on the PM.

You know you're wired when...

You prefer rechargeable batteries.
