Get checked for sleep apnea

Please get checked for sleep apnea. You sound like me. I'd make it to about 4AM. Then wake up gasping for air. It seemed just as I was really getting good sleep, I'd have to wake up.
There can be other problems - won't argue that. But it sounds like the classical OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) problem.
Checking with a sleep doctor and having a sleep study will get you answers.
Hope you can get help soon.

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.

So many of us have Sleep Apnea and use CPAP machines. Like Angry Sparrow, I have the type of apnea where I apparently don't get the signal needed to breathe and stop breathing during sleep an average of 17 times every hour. I often wonder, if my apnea had been diagnosed sooner, whether I would have developed the cardiac dysfunction that I now have. All of my doctors, including my GP consistently ask whether I am using my CPAP every night. It is important to talk to your EP about your situation. I was told to watch for fluid retention and any swelling in my ankles along with difficulty breathing since those symptoms can be a sign of developing congestive heart failure. I don't say this to alarm you and hope that your breathing problem is related to something relatively straight forward like PM settings or Sleep Apnea.
