is my icd set too low

My heart rate went up to 194bpm so i went to the ER for difficulty breathing they gave me lidocaine (which sent me in convulsions) to lower my heart rate and it did well the hospital Electrophysiologist changed my device settings from it shocking me at 214bpm to 182bpm in which i totally disagreed but they dont understand the mental anguish this device causes, and yes i am aware that its there to save my life and im very appreciative for that my problem is when the doctors dont include me in my life decisions....

Call your regular EP or Cardio. Let him know what was changed and your concerns.

It sounds low to me. I don't know your condition though.

Mine is set to shock at 220, after holding that rate for about 8 seconds I believe. I have gone past that at times but not for better than 8 seconds so I haven't been shocked....yet.

feeling stressed

My EP reset my device to pace at 180bpm but to shock at 214bpm and my device has paced me for the last 4days and i was doing anything but standing and it's difficult to go to work after a pacing episode cause you're not sure if this device might shock you....feeling very stressed

A better understanding

I'm sorry to hear that.....stressful indeed.

Are you on any meds to keep your HR lower? I'm sure your Doctor is on top of it.

Paced for 4 days?

If you tell us why you have the device, we may be able to help you more. Your Bio states you have it since 2009 but not much else.

For example, I have a CRT-D and I am paced 100% in the ventricles and 97% in the atria so pretty much all the time. So I'm not sure what you mean by paced for 4 days. I'm guessing you have the same as me since you are being paced. Some ICD's are only shock devices and not for pacing. The terms are often used interchangeable.

What do you mean by pacing episode?

Just trying to help.

My EP said what im feeling is my device trying to pace me out of a fast rhythm before is sends a shock...In Oct. I was shocked 5times because my device couldnt break the fast rhythm and ive been terrified since then

We need to know exactly....

....what model CRT-D you have. they are all different in their approach to how they try to "Pace you out of fast rhythms."

It would also be nice to know exactly what your diagnosis is that got you the device.

I was taking sotalol 120mg twice a day but they increased it to 160mg twice a day....having these episodes really consumes my life and my kids are afraid to leave me home alone but i pray that with newer technology a device is make that can fix arrythmias in a painless physical and mentally way...
