Afib

My pacer was implanted because I have bradycardia along with various rhythm problems including Afib. The primary purpose of the pacer was to keep my heart rate at a minimum of 60 BPM so that it would not become even lower because of the side effects of the medications I am taking to control the Afib. The irregular heart beat was not "fixed" by my pacer. Medication addressing the afib was also required. Sometimes it takes a period of trial and error to find the right prescriptions. If that fails then ablation might be an option. I am taking Bisoprolol and Flecainide and they are being effective in reducing the frequency and severity of my Afib. Are you taking medication?

Same for me

They couldn't control my afib with medication alone. They tried rhythm control but that didn't work so they went for rate control.

With rate control they use medication to slow my heart down then use the PM to bring my heart rate up. Setting is at 60 BPM.

My PM is a Medtronic. It does have a setting for afib. APP (Atrial Preference Pacing). Between the medication, APP, or a combination of medication and APP it has reduced the number and intensity of afib sessions I've had. But the PM doesn't stop the afib.

Hope they can find a solution for you.

...Irregular Heart beats?

There are literally a dozen different kinds. Some just cannot be fixed by a PM - especially ones that are faster than normal.

If you cannot give them a name, describe them & let us see if we can name them for you. (Personally, I'm partial to "Ralph." )

extra beats

All the pm can do is add beats when you go too slow or skip. If your heart goes too fast or adds extra half beats (pvc and pac), all the pm will do is watch.
