I was told to go with an analogue device but all the new ones seem to be ditigal which I believe is why they don't work, you would have thought something so simple could be resolved in this day

Polar Heart Rate Monitor

I use a Polar HRM. Not a lot of bells and whistles but it works well for what I need.

I've compared it to a pulse ox meter I recently bought because lately, my heart decides to race AFTER exercise (go figure) and beat for beat it comes within 1 digit of the meter. So for me, it seems pretty accurate.

I could not find one that works for me. After returning two, I started asking to try them in the store. I finally quit trying and go by how I feel. If I am sweating, can talk but not sing, I figure I'm where I need to be.

Which Polar??

Mine is an FT2 model. An older version of FT2.

I have a Polar FT2 and it seems to work OK , but as with many things relating to PMs; we may be all different !

Monitor

My Polar FT7 works great and seems very accurate but has a chest strap. I am looking for one that is just the wrist watch. I tried the Mio Alpha but returned it. During spinning it went down to the 60s rather than up to 130s. It was accurate when sitting, but that is not when I need it. If anyone has tried the Fitbit, Basic, or PulseOn I would love to know if they work. Thanks!

Another Polar

Seems as though Polar is the best make - I've got a Polar 4 and that seems to work well for me.

Another option

I use a MIO Alpha monitor. It reads capillary action on the wrist, so there is now strap and transmitter. It is not cheap, around $150, but very convenient. The battery is rechargeable from a USB connection to a computer.
