Super glue

My doc used super glue to hold my outermost incision together. I am one week out from the procedure and it is peeling off in large strips. Underneath is dry and no blood or pus or anything to suggest it is not healing quite well. Should I just let it come off as it chooses, even if it is all gone by end of week? Or should I call the EP and ask if he wants to look at it?

Glue Job on 9 Jan

by donr - 2015-01-21 01:01:29

By my calculations, you had it implanted on 9 Jan, so it's been nearly 2 weeks. That incision should be closed by now so infection should no longer be a problem from water running over it.

Mine itched like a demon possessed it after a while - must have been the stuff breaking free of the skin.

At this point, I'd just say don't pull the residue off.

I am 8 days post-op

8 days will work

in an emergency or if you aren't swimming w/ it.

nice part about a glue job - no sutures to stick out & make a pathway for micro organisms to crawl into the wound.

Super Glue on a foot

by donr - 2015-01-21 09:01:51

I had a foot surgery in Sept 2014. The surgeon used super glue on it & specifically told me to NOT touch it or to remove it when it started peeling off. Leave it alone & let it come off by itself. took about three weeks to completely peel off.

Nice part about it was that it sealed up the incision & kept it from being exposed to contamination.

Also - no water on it till it had completely peeled. Not a big deal in the case of a foot - it was in a bandage most of that period, anyway.

Fresh blood

by tessenne - 2015-01-21 10:01:20

So what if one side is wider than the other and the wider side has fresh blood? I feel like I should go to the store and get some 'second skin' or something. It is such a small spot though. I feel like, unless it was spewing blood, a little bit should not matter. But then I also worry about the resulting scar or it coming open even more.

Check with the doc...

I had problems with my incision site also. My doc was very concerned about infection. My advice is to contact your doc to see how they want to handle it. You don't want to take any chances.

I got it wet!

by tessenne - 2015-01-21 12:01:31

So that may be why it is coming off a bit early. My surgeon only told me to keep it dry for one full day after leaving the hospital. I did, but when I went to shower I put a bandage over it anyway but it still got wet. I am expecting a call from the EP anyway so I will mention it to him then but the site looks very good to me. But what do I know? Lol. It does itch all the sudden like you would not believe! I can barely keep my hands off of it and I have to keep my hair tied because the feeling of my hair on it makes me crazy but that is a good sign of healing right?

Hi, I would check with your doctor first before trying something like "second skin". Since there is a tiny open spot with fresh blood you could still get an infection. I did not have the glue with mine, but one of the stitches didn't dissolve and when the doc got it out the incision broke open a little on one end. He put steri-strips on it and told me to come back in a week so he could check it . It was fine.

Good luck to you!

As of right now

by tessenne - 2015-01-22 12:01:34

My guy isn't getting back to me at all. Apparently, whatever concerns I have, they are not urgent. Thanks for all your comments. Hopefully the EP finds some time today to call me.

The EP

ended up putting me back on antibiotics but we are going to let it heal the way it is.
