Hey, I need some help or advice. I'm only 21 and had a dual chambered pacemaker inserted in February 2014 due to multiple pass out spells and going asystole. However, about a month ago, I've been having swollen neck veins that bulge very noticeably. I recently had a Doppler of my left arm done, which came back clean. Then I had an echo done, which is showing regurgitation of my mitral and tricuspid valves. Today when I was working out, I had my jugular veins in my neck swell again, but this time it caused my face to swell to the point where I looked like a chipmunk and became completely pale. Has anyone had any of this happen to them? What were your symptoms and what was the treatment? Any thing helps. Thank you!

Sad thing

Sad thing is that I have seen both my cardiologist and electrophysiologist and both have told me to ignore it.
Swelling

I have what seems to be permanent swelling of my jugular vein when I hold my breath and pressure up my rib cage or bend over. This is caused by the nearly complete closure of the vein where the leads enter. I had a couple of clots take up residence there (scar tissue). I have sleight swelling of my left arm and collateral veins in my upper arm as well. I was told that this condition is not likely to change as it has been more than two years since the pm implant. The docs say it is not dangerous and they have not restricted my activities. However it is concerning when you see the bulging of the jugular vein.
The clots were detected by both echo and CT scan. I am on long term blood thinner because of Afib.
I would push the issue with your doctors as your condition is not normal in my opinion.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
call your doctor

Please check in with your doctor or a clinic before New Year's Eve. I found out last Christmas season that with my bradycardia and light headedness and some vertigo that it was impossible to get hold of any of my regular doctors. An emergency clinical just stated after many tests that I should have gotten my pacemaker before that point. When my electrocardiologist returned from a three week vacation, he installed my pacemaker with 4 days. That was just with bradycardia, not even the swelling and other symptoms that you have. Please get checked out now. You may find out that the gyms are open, but the doctors are all on vacation, so you might hold back on heavy exercise until you are seen.
