Guidance Requested

Hi there, I'm on week 6 today of having my pacemaker lead reinserted. It's my understanding that it takes awhile to get the settings perfect. On Friday my doc told me that he foresees that the pacemaker could be taken out within the year as he feels that I am healing from the heart block caused by an Ablation for SVT on the 1st of Dec. I personally am super skeptical about this as I feel like crap most of the time - chest pain, weird bumps and twinges in my chest, lightheadedness, occasional nausea, etc. Anyways, this past Friday he felt that I am doing so well that he basically turned off everything he said and the pacemaker will only kick in if my BPM goes below 50. Since that time I've had wicked irregular heart rate - enough to wake me every couple of hours and cause me to walk around my house until it subsides, followed by periods of 70-90 BPM, escalating to 130 BPM for just putting on my boots getting ready to pick up kids from school.

My chest is sore and I'm not comfortable with the heart rate. It takes forever to get another appointment to the pacemaker clinic after they tweak it and it doesn't seem right.

So here are the questions: Does this all seem reasonable to anyone? Anyone have similar experience or insights to share?

Is there a place to go that you check in for a week and they tweak your pacemaker until they get the right setting or is this just not how it works?

I irregular heart rate something to go to the ER about or is it ok to just ride it out?

Really really thankful that I am alive and I am just so ready to move on with my life.

Let him know you are not feeling well. It sounds like turning everything off is not working for you.

Don't ride it out, you shouldn't have to feel so ill.

Have a conversation with your Doctor about your concerns. If you can't talk to him, it may be time to find another Doctor.

Good luck,

No, there isn't any place to go for a week. However, if they need to tweek it everyday until it is right, then they must do that. You need to advocate for yourself. If this doctor doesn't do it for you, then perhaps you should find another.

Hi Hutter, I am Canadian so it may be difficult for you to see my docs ...? Regardless, they are in Royal Columbian Hospital in BC and my guess is that taking out a pacemaker would be dependent on each individual case ...?

On a side note, when I went back in this Wednesday, they did see the heart block again and this time no one said anything about the probability of removing the pacemaker ...

You know you're wired when...

You’re officially battery-operated.
