ILR and pacemaker

Has anyone had to have a pacemaker after having an ILR (loop recorder) implanted ? I know there will be movement restrictions and it will take langer to fully heal. I had an ILR in July of last year. The first night was pretty bad. Now is just an annoyance sometimes if I sleep wrong or hit it somehow. I am going in January 23rd for the pacemaker procedure and am a wondering about the recovery process differences. If anyone is willing to share who has had both done I would really appreciate it! I want to be prepared! Thank you!

Hi I also had a loop recorder implanted before getting a pacemaker. The loop recorder was removed at the same time the pacemaker was put in. I didnt have any additional restrictions other than the normal pacemaker ones. The spot where they removed the loop from was sore for awile but healed fine.

So did I

Had a LIN Q recorder implanted First week in Sept 14, the second week of Oct 14 I received a phone call that I needed a pacemaker implanted. They did remove the recorder at the same time the pacemaker implanted. I had the same problem with sleeping with the loop recorder as it was always pressing against my upper rib cage. The same problem does not exists with my pacemaker as the location is in my upper chest just below my collar bone. Sleeping is much easier. I'm now post removal and implant 9 weeks or so, and today life is back to normal for me, I hardly notice my Hockey puck...

Good Luck

Thank you for posting! So the pacemaker recovery was about the same as the ILR pain wise? My ILR is in my upper chest as well.I guess that is my biggest concern since I can't take oral pain meds..The ILR insertion site was sore till it healed and I was black and blue for about a month. So pretty much the same for the pacemaker?

good luck

I had a loop recorder for over a year, it hurt all the time. I was told the reason was it was resting on a nerve.
The loop recorder was removed at the same time as the pacemaker was put in.
I had hardly any bruising at the site of the pacemaker but the disposable stitches did take some time to go which meant it was more comfortable to put a dressing over the area otherwise the stitches caught on some clothing.
