Any PM marathoners out there...

Hey guys,

I am curious if there is any marathon runners amongst us. I got my pacemaker a few weeks ago, feeling better than ever symptom wise, also only a little tender around my surgical sites. I used to be an elite half marathoner and I'd like to get back into running since I should no longer be fainting into the pavement. If any of you have suggestions on starting exercises to get back in the hang of things that would be amazing to hear what worked for you. I haven't been able to stay on my feet while running for a few years now so this is my new chapter. Thanks for being such a great club, I value every post I read.

Half marathoner, just for fun. Sign up for your next race and start training already. I ran the night of my pm implant. Alternate with walking if you have too at first.
Next race Arizona Rock and Roll 2015. Hope to see you there!

go for it

I'm no marathoner, just a regular and very slow runner, but there are plenty here who have done marathons, triathlons, anything you can think of.

I started walking the day I got out of the hospital, gradually increased speed and distance, added weights. Start with intervals when you feel up to it. The impact may make the site sore at first, just back off if that happens, ice it, and try it again in a few days. You won't do any damage, but jostling things too much before they're fully healed can make you sore. I've read people who could run comfortably a week later, others took a month or more.

Good luck!! If your only problem was a slow heart and you aren't on any meds, there's no reason you can't get back to where you were. Not fainting on the pavement should be good for your time :)

just start running

not elite, well i am not..
ran a few over the last 25 years, raced (ok ran) 5K's to Marathon. pacemaker about 9 months ago after a few adjustments able to run again, at 60 not able to do what i could in late 30's early 40's don't really care... just being able to hit the roads and trails is good :), Just had my forth knee surgery, 1st one on left knee, anyway i feel my age slows as much as the pacemaker does..

I finished a half marathon in a time of 1:46:11 two days ago. Felt good. No issues with the icd. Planning to do full marathon next May in Cincinnati called the Flying Pig marathon.

thank you

Thank you all for the response. You keep me inspired to be true to myself. Met with my personal trainer today..getting ready to slowly come back to racing. Hopefully Boston will be in my grasp. Hope to see you there.

You know you're wired when...

You have a T-shirt that reads “Wired4Sound”.
