Hello all. Just had pacemaker installed one week ago and am finally back home. It all came as a shock to me as I was feeling fine with no obvious indicators leading up to my blacking out. Turns out I had a low heart rate. I am 69 years old and was an active person exercising regularly. My question is whether others have experienced discomfort after sneezing or coughing soon after implant?

to the land of the electronically enhanced!!
Yea, coughing, sneezing, things like that can hurt for a week or so after implant. For some, it takes longer to heal, some shorter...
As NiceNiecey said, give yourself some time!
Thank You

Thanks to NiceNiecey, Lurch and Sunshinewishes for your comments and well wishes. Sorry it took me so long to reply but I've had friends and relatives dropping in ever since I got home and just didn't have the time. Things are going well and am getting used to PM more each day. No adverse effects except the discomfort when sneezing etc.

Yes, sneezing, coughing, quick movements, the dog yanking on the lead - all these can cause some local discomfort so soon after implantation. It will pass.
Many of us claim to have no idea we were "sick," me included. Looking back, however, the signs were there; I just chose to ignore them or didn't realize they were serious (take your pick!). I convinced myself that I was just over weight, getting old (at 55), was out of shape (even though I walk at least 30 minutes a day), or had a thyroid problem. You may look back and decide the same thing.
Give yourself time to adjust to the PM. You'll need time for the incision site to heal, time to wrap your brain around the new normal, and possibly time to get used to all the strange new things your heart will probably do!
In the meantime, keep reading on this site. It's so helpful and I've learned all sorts of things that I probably should know. Use the search bar, too, to find answers to some of your questions.
All the best!
