Pericarditis after PM implantation

Hi,
I just had my first PM implanted on Tuesday and have had a lot of inflammation from the leads since surgery. I found out today I now have pericarditis and am in horrible pain. My physician has given me a new medicine to treat it and so I hope to have relief soon. He told me this was pretty rare to happen but was wondering if anyone else experienced this after implantation?

Thanks for any input....

Don't You Hate It When That Happens?!?

Poor girl! Check out the SEARCH mechanism on the first page (gray, horizontal bar) and see what you find. I have only had my PM for 9 months but I have seen at least one other person post the same problem with pericarditis. I am truly sorry this has happened to you. I developed a DVT (blood clot) in my armpit after I got my PM as well as afib. My doctor said he only had 2 of us all year that developed a DVT and "these problems." The good news is, it led me to this site. I will pray for relief from your pain; I can only imagine what that's like.

Thanks so much! I will check that search button out. I'm new to the site as well and didn't look there.

I'm so sorry you developed a DVT after yours...ugh! Glad to hear that you are doing much better.
This has been a really rough five days...the pericarditis has been some of the worse pain I have ever experienced. I have a high thresold but this has been too much. My doctor said he sees this maybe two times a year. :(

I, too, am praying for relief, this has been really some of my darkest days. Looking forward to feeling better.

Thanks for the help.

After Heart Attack

by Marie12 - 2014-09-21 08:09:26

I developed pericarditis after my heart attack and while I was in the hospital. Fortunately, at that time it only lasted a few days and they treated it with mega doses of Advil. I get it now every once in a while and at first I always think I'm having another HA. If you google this, you will find it can be temporary and that is what I am hoping for you.

Good luck.

Paricarditis !!

Hi, I read your post the other night & questioned my wife about your problem. Wife Sharon is a recent retired Cardiac Nurse of 25 years & has seen numerous patients with this problem & usually is treated with Advil. I had a bad episode some time ago where I needed a Epicardial Window surgery where my heart had lots of fluid surrounding it hence the surgery. I was also put on the same treatment but in my case this problem was brought about by a severe reaction from a Lexiscan Stress Test. It not only took it's toll on my heart but also shut down Kidneys & Liver Enzymes were way out of limits. Fortunetly after a week under hospital care, recovery was welcomed!! Hopefully when you read this you will also get rid of the pain. Wife says it will clear up !!
