Just over two months from my pacemaker surgery, and I have a new goal. Determined to be my doctors first pacemaker patient to run any type of marathon, 1/2 or otherwise. Granted I have an unfair advantage over the competition, being in my 40s and on average decades younger, but it's good to have goals :) Several runs down (albeit slow as molasses to stay within my doctors HR guidelines), still feeling good. First hurdle in sight, 5 mile Turkey Trot!

Sounds like a great plan, Monica!
As I said before, with a heart block "only", the pacemaker should not affect/limit your ability to exercise at all as long as you have the upper tracking rate set high enough, so that you don't go into a 2:1 block. Your sinus node will continue to do the good job it did before the pacer went in, and the pacer will now make sure that the ventricles follow that sinus node pace. So, the sky is the limit!
Have fun!

A pacemaker suddenly quitting is no more likely to happen than you are to be struck by lightening.
Great attitude

Yes it's an advantage to be in your 40's. I'm in my 60's and I was only patient with my particular cardiologist who had been running for 14 years. My favourite was the 10km. Half marathon is attainable but little more perseverance in training is required with a PM.
Well done keep on going your 8km (5 mile) starts with good positive thinking. Running for me has always been first a mind game. Positive thoughts really does work.
Keep going roadrunner.......
God bless
