Looking for advise on running issues with my pm. I am 54 yrs old and have severe bradycardia and am paced 100% of the time. My pm is a Medtronic that uses only a accelerometer. When running off road trails my heart rate goes to 145 the max setting and stays there uphill, downhill and on the flats. Has anyone else had this issue and what might a solution be?
Thanks,
Tim

With the help of my cardiologist and Medtronic rep, couple of office visit and adjustment to the activity threshold setting, thing seam much better now. according to both of them us runners are a tough group. Do not give up it can be worked out. You can do a search I know others alao had/have issues with being active.

ChrisD and wjs1954- Is it possible for you guys to contact me by email? I'm a hiker, 77 y.o. and having problem with my settings I think. I get skip beats when I start hiking that continue for 20-30 minutes before my rhythm kicks in. It is so uncomfortable that I sometimes can't continue. I would appreciate to know your settings so I can compare to mine and maybe suggest changes to the Medtronic rep.
my email is- harry dot noto at gmail dot com
I am fanatic about hydration so I don't think that's a factor. Maybe it's just my age, but the plumbing is good they say, it's just an electrical problem.

Rate drops on hills

Hey good to know that there are other energetic folks out there. I have a medtronic consulta CRT PM, am paced 99% according to interrogation. Had it for about 8 months. I can now jog on flat and slight inclines for ever, well at least a couple of km.
I have been commenting (complaining) to the EPs that stairs and steeper hills are still very hard. Finally wore hubby's monitor and low & behold my HR drops going uphill and increases going down.
They have done a lot of tweaking, now it kicks in after 15 secs. When I tap the pm rate goes up but then drops quickly So I guess they need to do a bit more tweaking. Does any one have any ideas.
I figured if I moved to Australia from Canada it might work!
Cheers
Anne

I have an ICD which is both a pacer/defib. I have no problems with mine and it has saved my life.

I am 53, and had a PM implanted 3 months ago due to bradycardia caused by AV block and Sick Sinus Syndrome. I am a runner too and I have a Medtronic Advisa. I went through a number of setting changes an I finally got mine to respond reasonably well. My HR goes up to 150 (my upper limit setting) pretty easily and stays there for most of my run (uphill, downhill, and on the flats). After a while of running as I slow down a little it starts to drift into the 130s and varies a bit more. The real question is, "How do you feel?" Just because it goes there and stays there during exercise doesn't mean it is a problem.
